Fat Tuesday Wedding Inspiration

Happy Fat Tuesday!  Even if you aren't in New Orleans, Fat Tuesday gives you an excuse to throw back a hurricane and celebrate Mardi Gras. I personally love New Orleans…the culture, the food, the people, the music and especially the famous NOLA tradish...the second line.

The second line is the "trailing" section of the traditional brass band parades in New Orleans. The second line follows behind the "main line" of the actual brass band participants in the parade. It's style of traditional dance, in which participants walk and sometimes twirl a parasol or handkerchief in the air, is called "second lining." At a wedding it signifies the start of a new beginning of life for the bride and groom. The second line band leads the bridal party and guests from the church to the reception venue or it may take place at the reception itself.

How fun would that be - a parade in your honor? A hurricane in one hand and a hankie waving in the other - I'm ready.

And second lines aren't just happening in New Orleans anymore - parades are becoming a popular wedding activity all over the place.

I have a feeling we'll be seeing more wedding parades in 2011 - thanks NOLA for the cool tradition and for a reason to celebrate!
