A few days ago I posted about the importance of setting realistic expectations for your wedding day and during the planning process. I had been getting so caught up in all the little details and not really thinking about the bigger picture. Now that I've come back down to reality we've actually made some decisions and crossed some more tasks off our to-do list. If you read my blog at all you know we've been trying to make a decision on our honeymoon and it has not been easy. We decided to stop stressing about that too or maybe it's just that the decision was made easier due to our circumstances.
My Guy works on a private family yacht with a very random schedule. He never knows when they will decide to use the boat. He could be home for months at a time or they could decide to cruise all summer long (like they did last year!). At times this can be very stressful for us b/c we can't plan anything. We've had to cancel or reschedule our plans (including about four vacations) based on his work schedule. With the wedding it's been different - since it's a major life event they are allowing him to take those days off but we just found out that right after the wedding he will be shipping out for three months! That's right...we say our "I do's" and then we don't see each other for the entire summer. I'm sure I'll try to make a trip or two to go see him but it's tough since they don't always know what port they will be in until the last minute. I was really bummed out when I found out but what are you going to do?
Anyway, we decided that rather than cram a honeymoon in right after our wedding and before he leaves for so long that we'd wait until he gets back. That way we have a lot more time for a honeymoon and we'll really be excited to spend some alone time together since we will have been apart for over three months. It worked out well too b/c we were having a hell of a time trying to figure out where to go from Portland in the short amount of time we had alloted for a honeymoon on the heels of the wedding. We'll also have the whole summer to save a bit more money for our trip especially after having just spent a fair bit on the wedding.
Now that timing and location aren't an issue - where will we go??? It opens up a whole new list of options. Mexico is still and always top of the list but we can go there anytime.
Some possibilities:
Greece

And the list goes on...I would love to go to Australia and New Zealand if we ever had time for something like that and maybe a trek around a few European countries. I guess we have time to decide now, time to save and time to narrow our list to just one!
