Travel Tuesday: Surfer Chic

It's freezing cold in FL.  They said yesterday we had the same temps as parts of Alaska!  The thermostat read 24 degrees when I woke up this morning.  Makes you want to book a trip to a tropical paradise and I can't imagine how it is for all your northerners especially by about April when you've had months of this kind of weather. So I thought I'd stick with a place to look forward to once summer rolls around.

Salt in your hair, flip-flops, hammocks, surfboard racks, beach bonfires, steel drum music in the background...sound like Jamaica?  Think again...Montauk, NY (Long Island). A popular summer destination for Manhattan socialites but you won't find your typical Hamptons crowd at The Surf Lodge.

The lodge was built for laid back surf weekend getaways and features a large outdoor lounge and deck that's perfect for enjoying a mojito after a long day in the water.  The decor is shabby surfer chic with turquoise wooden floors in the main building, where surf movies play on an endless loop and a chalkboard advertises daily wave heights.

Each airy room overlooking the bay has seaside charm with white walls, wooden floors, artful pieces of driftwood and private balconies with a hammock.

On most weekends they offer the latest surf movies as well as live performances by big name chill artists like G Love, Moby, Stephan Marley, Matt Costa and several others.

Whether you want to take surf lessons, rent kayaks, take a morning yoga class on their expansive deck, get a facial or just lounge on the deck with a margarita and watch the sun go down...book your summer trip to the Surf Lodge now.

My guy cruised around the entire NE this summer on a boat hitting most of the noteable port cities and Montauk specifically the Surf Lodge was his favorite spot.  It's on our list and we'd love to make it stop on a NE summer trip one of these days soon!
