2010...wow...Happy New Year to everyone! I can't believe I've been so delinquent about my blog posts over the holiday break. I was home in freezing cold IL and while I did have a busy schedule trying to visit with all my friends and family I must admit I probably could have managed to squeeze in time each day to write about my planning process and things that have inspired me this holiday season. Especially after watching Julie and Julia over the break and seeing how she did it even with working a full time job and cooking all those meals! I guess everyone needs a break sometimes but it's really hard to get back in the swing of things after you break from habit. Well, now I'm back and ready to have a very productive start to the new year!
I thought I'd dedicate this Travel Tuesday post to somewhere a lot warmer than where most folks are right now. I just left the below zero temps in the Midwest and back in FL where it was about 20 degrees last night...burrrr.
I must have been Latin in a past love b/c I love the culture, people, community, food of Latin American countries....and the resorts - especially in Mexico. The best places I have ever stayed have been in Mexico - the most spectaular were Las Ventanas and the One and Only Palmilla in Los Cabos. Both are stunning with impeccable service. The perfect spots for a honeymoon and total relaxation and pampering - I will refrain from doing a post on either since I did not go there with My Guy and since this blog is dedicated to our future nuptials and neither place is in the running for our honeymoon you'll just have to look them up and see how amazing they are for yourself.
I am always trying to find the new or hidden resorts in Mexico and was super excited when the Rosewood Hotel Group who also owns Las Ventanas opened their new resort the Rosewood Mayakoba in Playa del Carmen on the Yucatan Penisula. This place has only been open for about two years and has been named the top resort in Mexico by Travel and Leisure magazine.
If you are looking for a good honeymoon option not far from the states than you might want to check out the newly developed Mayakoba area of Mexico. It's still maintains a very serene and natural setting without being over developed like Cancun (only 45 miles away). It looks like Banyan Tree just recently built a Mayakoba resort that looks pretty amazing too!

Overwater Lagoon and Spa Rooms
The resort is located between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen, on the Riviera Maya. Most of the resorts are set amongst mangrove lagoons and waterways and white sand beaches.
This is from one of the reviews I read: The resort has two very different sections. Far back from the sea, in low scrub jungle are the majority of the 128 suites, as well as the main restaurant (Amazing food, chef from Barcelona), a lounge with a raw bar and "tequila library," the spa, and two pools. This area is cut through with canals, the water so crystal–clear you can see fish and craggy limestone formations in the bottom. Past the dense buffer of greenery, the beach––with a casual restaurant, a mid–size infinity pool and a smaller cluster of suites––is accessible either by electric boat or golf cart. The half–mile walk isn't one you'd relish in the midday sun. With the social heart of the resort so far inland, the beach can feel a little isolated––though it's great if you want privacy or romance.
The rooms sound ample sized with two showers (one outdoor), a tub, private plunge pool, rooftop deck and a private boat dock. Sounds like a winner to me - but also sounds pretty expensive and if the prices mirror those of sister hotel Las Ventanas than it certainly is! But as they say - you get what you pay for - the service at Ventanas was over-the-top and so personal as I'm sure it would be at the Mayakoba.
Look at that shower!
