DIY engagement shots

As I posted earlier - I loved Cori and Evan's DIY engagment session from August and After so we decided we would try this idea too.  We aren't going to use a picture on the save-the-date cards and we've already completed our wedding website so really this was more a fun outing to capture some pictures of us during our engagement days to remember this time.  We woke up first thing in the Saturding morning and shoot some pictures on the beach at sunrise - I didn't want to take any of us since it was 6AM and I looked like someone who'd been sleeping under the pier all night.

The water on the sand and the reflection from the sunrise made it look like glass

Later in the afternoon nearing sunset we drove around to some of the parks on the Intracoastal waterway hoping to find some neat spots and good light to take some pictures.  Luckily my fiance had just ordered a remote for his camera so we didn't have to run back and forth each time trying to get a good shot or just setting the timer and hoping to look nature when the shot took.  I would HIGHLY recommend getting one of those if you decide to do your own engagement shots!  We must have taken 200 shots in different spots and in various poses - it made for several laughs trying to figure out what kind of creative shots we were going to do.  Our favorite pictures are candids that are the most natural so trying to come up with poses that you think are really cool and fun can sometimes turn out really cheesy!  That must be tough for wedding photographers. It's crazy how you can take 200 pictures and there are usually only a handful that you really like.

This one may need some more editing work but one of the better ones from that spot

Did I mention the cheesy shots - this is clearly one of them!

One of my favorites from the day

If you look close you can see the dolphin popping up on the left - this is our favorite time of day on the water

There are several more that I may post later after some edits but I would highly recommend this idea to any DIYer's trying to save some money.  Not only will it cut your costs but it can be a really fun experience to get out and find new places in your own town that you haven't experienced before. It's also precious time to spend with your love creating new memories and taking some of our own fun pictures. (even if the bystanders think you are crazy!)
